ALLERGY VACCINES

The skin allergy test or the prick test you did in order to diagnose the cause of allergy, presents a golden standard among the methods of allergy diagnosis and gives the most accurate results compared to other methods. Based on the skin reaction noticed during the testing, the doctor prescribes a therapy. There are two basic types of therapy for allergy treatment: 1. Symptomatic treatment (with a temporary effect) and 2. Specific immunotherapy (with a long-term effect)

1. Symptomatic treatment (with temporary effect) and
2. Specific immunotherapy (with long-term).

1. SYMPTOMATIC TREATMENT( WITH TEMPORARY EFFECT) The symptomatic treatment is a treatment with medications, antihistamine, corticosteroids and other anti-allergens which have the purpose to decrease allergy symptoms (runny nose, itching, suffocating, coughing, flow of tears, conjunctivitis) and helps the patient. The symptomatic treatment doesn't cure allergy and won’t make it disappear. It is a short-term and treats the symptoms, not the cause of the allergy, regardless if it’s pollen allergt, house dust, pests like dog, cat, hamster, or mold. That’s why when you stop with the therapy symptoms will be back.

2. SPECIFIC IMMUNOTHERAPY (WITH LONG-TERM) The specific immunotherapy is a therapy which has a purpose to change hypersensitivity and normalize the reaction to the causer of the allergy (pollen, house dust, etc). The allergenic extracts of the manufacturer Allergopharma for a specific immune therapy are made from different raw materials with biological origin containing allergens such as: pollen, house dust, animal hair, mold etc. In fact, the specific immunotherapy is taking disposable cleaned lyophilized allergenic extract to which the patient is allergic, 10.000 times rarefied, to prevent hyper-reaction. This specific immunotherapy last for at least 2 years, and in that time the user will continuously take larger doses of the allergy vaccination on a separate time intervals. During these two years the user should order four vaccines, from which the first one is the beginning dose, and the rest are the maintaining dose. In this way it comes to continuously de-sensitivity (adaptation) of the organism to the appropriate causer of the allergy.

Immunotherapy starts with taking the beginning dose of the vaccine. The vaccination with the beginning dose starts with taking the largest rarefied allergen and with continuous increasement of the concentration (dose) during the next two weeks. Depending on the vaccine type, the beginning dose should be taken during the first 7-14 weeks, once a week. Next vaccine is the maintaining vaccine. It is the highest concentration of the allergen and the patient should take it once in a 4-6 weeks during the next 18 months in order for the effect to be optimal and long-term. (most often three vaccines total-maintaining dose).

The effect of the specific immunotherapy is proved in many clinical studies and it is accepted in world frames as a therapy of choice with allergic conditions, especially with the allergic rino-conjuctivitis. If the therapy is done properly, there will be significant decrease of the symptoms during the next 5-7 years (although there are cases where this therapy lasts for 12 years).

The producer Allergopharma Joachim Ganzer offers more types of vaccines for specific immunotherapy:

1. ALLERGOVIT (for pollen).
2. ACAROID (for house dust).
3. NOVO-ELISEN DEPOT (for house dust, mold and pets).
4. NOVO-HELISEN ORAL (for house dust, mold, pets).
5. ALLERSLIT - (polens) oral

Pollen therapy with Allergovit, if done properly and with the protocol of Allergopharma will cost the patient around 17,750 denars per year.
The pollen therapy of Acaroid, if done properly and with the protocol of Allergopharma, will cost the patient around 23.000 per year.
Novo-Helisen Depot therapy if done properly and with the protocol of Allergopharma will cost the patient 20,250 denars per year.
Therapy with Novo-Helisen if done properly and with the protocol of Allergopharma will cost the patient around 28,500 denars per year.

Specific immunotherapy should be taken 2-3 years only in a special hospital by and with the presence of special medical staff. Whether you will provide the therapy or where from, decide you with a consultation of your doctor.
